This qualification is classified as Level 7 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) according to the Level Descriptors for knowledge and understanding, which expand on those used within the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). A Level 7 diploma is equivalent to a master's degree in the UK education system, although learners must proceed to the dissertation stage to achieve the full master's degree.

Guided learning hours
refer to the time a tutor is present to give specific guidance towards the learning aim being studied. This includes lectures, tutorials, and supervised study, as well as observed assessments, examinations, and work-based practice.

Self-study includes independent research and learning, and the completion of unsupervised portfolio tasks, assessments, and coursework.

The total qualification time for this course is 1200 hours. This is a combination of 600 guided learning hours and 600 hours of independent and unsupervised self-study, spread out over four units.

You can complete this course in your own time and graduate with your certificate within a month of completing your studies.

This qualification is suitable for individuals who already work in—or have experience in—the hospitality and tourism industry, and seek to progress their career to a senior management or leadership position. It’s also relevant to individuals who aim to start their own business in the industry. 

Entry requirements may vary, but candidates are typically expected to have a bachelor’s degree in a related subject, preferably taught and delivered in English, or three years’ managerial work experience in a business environment. 

Your existing educational qualifications and work experience will be directly taken into account, allowing for module exemptions whenever possible. 
Key criteria:

  • Learners entering the Level 7 Diploma should possess a Level 6 qualification or a prior degree in a related subject.
  • In certain circumstances, applicants with considerable experience but no formal qualifications may be considered, subject to interview and being able to demonstrate their ability to cope with the demands of the qualification.  

While this qualification has been designed to be accessible without artificial barriers that restrict access and progression, there are some final requirements to note to begin this exciting journey in hospitality and tourism management:

  • In the case of applicants whose first language is not English, an IELTS 6 (or equivalent) is required to demonstrate English language proficiency in speaking, reading, writing and listening.
  • International qualifications will be checked for appropriate enrolment to UK higher education postgraduate programmes where applicable.
  • Applicants are normally required to produce two supporting references, at least one of which should preferably be academic.
